Redonda Vaught, a former Vanderbilt University Medical Center nurse, was sentenced to three years of supervised probation.
The former nurse was convicted after she gave the wrong medication to patient Charlene Murphey, causing her death.
Vaught was found guilty in March of criminally negligent homicide, a serious felony, and gross neglect of an impaired adult.
Judge Smith stated at the start of the hearing that her office received hundreds of pieces of correspondence in this case, including calls, voicemails, and letters, all of which will be added to the court file as public records.
Regardless, the state called Murphey’s son Michael Murphey to testify. Michael, who was called to testify, told the court that he does not believe his mother would want Vaught to serve any time in prison.
Meanwhile, Charlene’s widower, Michael’s father, would disagree. Michael also stated that his father would prefer that Vaught serve the maximum sentence.
