Doug Wright Died while swimming
Doug Wright, a partner at Holland & Knight LLP, died while swimming on Sunday, the law firm said. He was 60.
Wright was a member of the firm’s real estate practice group and had more than 30 years of experience representing clients in the acquisition, development, financing, and disposition of a commercial real estate.
“Doug was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a respected colleague and friend,” said Steven Sonberg, chairman and CEO of Holland & Knight. “He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.”
Wright is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons, Douglas and Gregory; and three grandchildren.

Doug Wright was a partner at Holland & Knight LLP and worked in the firm’s Tampa, Florida, office. He was also a member of the firm’s Real Estate, Land Use, and Environment Group.
Wright was born in Tampa and received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Florida. He then earned his law degree from Stetson University College of Law. After law school, he served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Susan Schaeffer of the 13th Judicial Circuit Court in Hillsborough County, Florida.
Wright began his legal career with Holland & Knight in 1998. He was promoted to partner in 2005.
During his time at Holland & Knight, Wright represented clients in a variety of real estate transactions, including the development, financing, and sale of office buildings, shopping centers, apartments, and condominiums. He also represented landowners in zoning and land use matters before local governments. In addition, Wright represented lenders in loan originations and workouts, as well as borrowers in loan restructurings.
Wright was active in several professional and community organizations. He served on the board of directors of the Hillsborough Education Foundation and was a member of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Tampa Class of

Wright was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in the suburbs. He received his B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1977 and his J.D. from Wayne State University Law School in 1980.
After law school, Wright worked as a law clerk for the Michigan Court of Appeals for one year before going into private practice. He joined Holland & Knight LLP in 1990 and has been there ever since.
Wright is a member of the American Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan. He is also a member of the Urban Land Institute and the International Council of Shopping Centers.
